How does one even begin to write something that needs to sum up everything that could never be described?
Our love has been the most magical, gentle, powerful, peaceful, miraculous experience we would have never even dreamed of encountering. It has revealed to us the true meaning of life, love, and has swept us completely off our feet enabling us to understand the meaning of entanglement and the feeling of being completely and utterly intertwined with one another. Here we are, in our attempt to do our best to convey a glimpse of everything that we believe, of who we are, of where we have been, and where we are going.
We would like to begin by talking about a word or a concept that can neither be achieved and sometimes not even understood, but it can be experienced. It may feel strange to mention or talk about ‘awakening’ in a wedding ceremony, however it will become clear why.
We can see this term being described and unfolded by multiple traditions; all taking different trains of thought, yet leading to the same road.
So, what does awakening mean to us?
Beyond its meaning it’s a feeling. Better described its the realization of arrival; that for the first time in your life things feel like they are supposed to, easy, natural, yet powerful and alive.
Like described in the Zen Buddhist tradition with the use of the word ‘Satori’. Satori refers to a deep experience which is described as “seeing into one's true nature”.
It means expansion. It’s the deep knowing that I am because I am with you.
Mirroring a kundalini awakening, it is a phenomenon that surfaces both when you are either prepared or unprepared for it to unfold. In order to integrate this spiritual energy you must let go of false predetermined ideas of who you are and be willing to navigate unknown territories to find a deeper understanding of yourself.
Lastly, it means truth. Embodied primarily by the sanskrit mantra Sat Nam that embodies the principle of “I am truth” or “truth is my name”.
In this wider sense of truth that encompasses us lies our oneness.
We speak about this moment of revelation, of undoing and truth because we believe that is where our story commenced. It commenced when we realized that our awakening laid within each other. This was immediate. It is difficult to describe the feeling of walking into a room and knowing, not in the mind, but in the heart- in this deeper sense of knowing and truth that you actually have a person, that it’s not a tale, or a legend, but that there could be no other explanation to the feeling of being completely and utterly in love with someone before even speaking one word to them. We were offered the gift of experiencing what it truly means to see into one’s true nature through the eyes of the other. Another that is more yourself than what you feel you could ever be. Another that in this case embodied that feeling of overwhelming joy and ecstasy that is so hard to convery and impossible to ignore.
We have been awakening to each other, to one another, and to ourselves. We have been on this journey of fearlessness, of feeling heard, felt, supported. And that journey has led us to today.
Marriage is our awakening.
It's awakening to the notion that I am you and you are me. That there is a reason, and a purpose to our union, and that if there were to be no reason or purpose it would not matter because just being together is more than enough. And that it’s up to us to take this blessing and the gift of this love and turn it into this incredibly unique journey of experiencing entanglement in the human form. Marriage, as we see it, is the divine, transcendental experience of uniting what is already entangled at soul level in the human experience.
The sanskrit phrase Aham Tvayi Tvam Mayi translates to “ I am in you. You are in me.” Here there is no separate. In “I am you. And you are me.” we are still two forms in acknowledgment to each other. In marriage there is no other, it is the experience of entanglement from within, where within me there is you, and within you there is me. This is the true meaning of love. No separation. Only One.
When it comes to awakening, love, marriage, being, and becoming… Words are just translations that sometimes may be misunderstood. That is why we stand here before you, so that beyond our words, our actions and our decision to dedicate our lives to one another may become the testament of our love.
